She completed her doctoral studies at Virginia Commonwealth University with a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and holds an Executive Master’s in Educational Leadership from Georgetown University. Recently, through Dr. Roane’s principalship in alternative education settings and commitment to life-long learning, she began to pursue an additional doctoral degree -- a doctorate in divinity from Virginia Union University.
Dr. Roane has 23 years of experience in education and has been a principal for 15 years. She has flourished at all levels of education, including at the elementary, middle, and high school level. She has served as the principal of both the Inspiring Youth Program and Youth Services Center in Washington, D.C., two campuses designed to meet the needs of students who are currently detained by the legal system. Prior to this, Dr. Roane was the Principal of Francis L. Cardozo Education Campus in D.C. and was the Principal of Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, Virginia.
One of Dr. Roane’s mantras that she lives by is from the great scholar, Dr. Cornel West. It states, “You can’t lead the people if you don’t love the people. You can’t save the people if you don’t serve the people.” She has dedicated her life to the field of education to ensure that all students are afforded an opportunity to receive a quality education that will empower them to be life-long learners.
